Olympusat Telecom Attends Multicultural TV and Video Conference at NAB 2016
Las Vegas, NV – April 20, 2016 – Olympusat Telecom, a market leader in the distribution of OTT and comprehensive CLOUD solutions, was in attendance at this year’s NAB Show, the world’s largest annual conference and expo for media and entertainment professionals, where Austin Powers, President of Olympusat Telecom, was chosen to participate on the What’s Everyone Watching? Multi-platform Programming for Multicultural Audiences Panel at the Multicultural TV and Video Conference at NAB.
Powers, who leads Olympusat Telecom, a full service communications and video provider, offered insight into the television industry’s transition to an Over-The-Top (OTT) technology, as well as the growing Hispanic audience’s preferences and demographics – viewers who are young, technologically savvy and have increasing buying power.
“Nielsen Research proves that 92% of the total growth in the U.S. population from 2000 to 2014 came from multicultural groups. Millennials are one of the most culturally diverse generations. However, they’re also connected by a number of shared values and a passion for digital engagement,” he explained during the panel.
“Spanish-language-dominant homes watch 78% of television in Spanish, according to Nielsen. So, if they like Spanish-language TV so much, why are they not ordering a Spanish-language TV package?” Powers asked the audience, constituted by representatives of every sector of the media and entertainment industry.
Although the Spanish-language TV industry is in the early stages of OTT development, Olympusat Telecom’s President anticipated that, as technological advances diversify TV-watching habits for both multicultural and mainstream audiences, Hispanics will shift away from traditional (linear) television and migrate to OTT in the next five years. The switch to digital will bring countless opportunities – and challenges too.
“Out of the 13.5 million Spanish-language-dominant homes in the United States, the Pay-TV industry has only managed to attract approximately 4 million homes to one of the cumulative Spanish-language TV packages offered by most providers,” stated Powers. “This would imply that 9.5 million U.S. Spanish-language-dominant homes do not have Pay-TV at all. It also implies that they don’t have broadband.”
Thus, he highlighted Olympusat’s new OTT TV Everywhere turnkey solution, VEMOX, as a way to access content anytime, anywhere and on any device. The platform delivers more than 100 live TV channels in Spanish and English, and over 5,000 hours of VOD content to subscribers across the United States and Latin America.
“With VEMOX we can target the 9.5 million homes that don’t have Pay-TV,” emphasized Powers. “There is a huge potential in reaching those costumers.”
